Description | Continuation of Commercial Music Sight Singing and Ear Training I with emphasis on chromatic tonalities and melodies. Learn to sight sing selected melodies in chromatic tonalities; and transcribe dictation of selected rhythmic patterns, chromatic melodies and intermediate chord progressions | ||||||||

Syllabus and Review: (discussion on time signature, rhythm notation, triads, usage of dominant chords, harmonic intervals, ascending and descending melodic intervals, major scale, minor scales, chords as numbers, solfeg, etc.) Week 2: Rhythm: 8th and 16th note based study Harmony: I-IV-V chord progressions (w/ inversion study) Intervals: melodic ascending intervals (m2 - M6) Melody: major scale study, minor scale study (natural, melodic, harmonic) Week 3: Rhythm: 8th and 16th note based study cont. Harmony: diatonic chord progressions (primary chords) Intervals: melodic ascending intervals (m2 - P8) Melody: singing major and minor melodies Week 4: Rhythm: triplets, dots and ties Harmony: diatonic chord progressions (primary chords) cont. Attendance Policy |
Research has shown a cause and effect relationship between attendance and college success. Policies for this course are as described below: You get one 1 free absence before your lates/absences start to count against your grade in the attendance category. After that, EACH UNEXCUSED ABSENCE DEDUCTS 10% OF YOUR ATTENDANCE GRADE. Three lates = 1 absence. Excused absences must meet the following criteria: death in the family, medical related emergency, illness with doctor's note. Any cause beyond this will be left up to instructor discretion. Excused absences will be considered on a case by case basis. YOU MUST E-MAIL YOUR INSTRUCTOR BEFORE YOU MISS CLASS with an explanation of why you will be absent. The date and time of the e-mail will be considered. Excused absences are conditional upon this. Any deviation will be considered at the discretion of the instructor. |
